Community After Birth was started with parent mental health at the center of everything we do, and we continue to uphold that viewpoint today.
Depression, Anxiety, and other mental health complications remain the #1 complication of childbearing in the United States. As doulas, it's imperative that we remain knowledgeable, armed with resources, and support families to the best of our abilities.
Does your team feel prepared when supporting a family in crisis? Do they know the warning signs? Do they know how to navigate difficult postpartum conversations and where to refer with confidence?
Contact our team at hello@communityafterbirth.org to bring a brief yet powerful training, Perinatal Mental Health for Doulas, to your team.

Poor maternal mental health can negatively impact infant feeding outcomes.
Infant feeding experiences may influence postpartum mental health outcomes through breastfeeding difficulty and pain, maternal self-efficacy, feeding intentions and expectations, and mental health history.
This review summarizes the literature on the interrelationship between infant feeding and maternal mental health and provides clinical tools to inform psychiatric practice.
Psychiatrists treating perinatal individuals should be aware of these important interactions, and further infant feeding research on populations with mental health conditions is needed.
Community After Birth, in partnership with doulas and advocates across Maryland, is looking for other birth workers in the state interested in advocacy efforts with the Maryland Department of Health and state legislators to increase reimbursement rates, health insurance coverages, and improve working conditions for doulas and birth workers.
Join the listserv on the DAM website if you'd like to stay connected with other state birth workers and advocates.
